Update …

Friday, July 2, 2010 11:58 6 Comments

Summer has proven to be a good break for both kids.  Nick is more subdued (no need to adjust his meds, he’s back to his “old” self… and I didn’t even have to leave the planet… hey, good times!!).  I think he was tired, you know how teens get.  So far he’s been out swimming [...]

Two years in review…

Saturday, May 8, 2010 9:32 4 Comments

The consensus is: Meghan seems much happier these days.  This is the opinion of her teachers, staff, and me, her mom!  As I mentioned before, I get updates from her contact teacher once a week.  This teacher tells me all about her week:  the good, the bad, and the ugly.  It’s like sitting down with [...]

Free Online ABA

Thursday, January 28, 2010 12:05 No Comments

I just LOVE this!  It’s called Jacob’s Lessons and was developed by a father of a young boy as a teaching/learning tool, and it follows the same principles of ABA.  Incidentally, his wife has worked teaching kids with autism, including ABA, for over 20 years.

Here is a direct link to the site.  You and your kids [...]

Update on kids — Making friends

Monday, November 16, 2009 11:54 7 Comments

First up, Nick.  He is a member of the Best Buddies group in his town.  Actually, he is co-president!  I’m so proud that his peers voted him the highest power one could obtain within this mighty group of young and eclectic personalities! His teachers, grandparents, aunts, uncles and anyone you can think of are proud [...]

I’ve been away…

Tuesday, November 10, 2009 14:16 4 Comments

I’ve been away for a while, taking a break from thinking, writing, reading about the world of autism… I think you know what I mean?

Well, actually, this break was prematurely forced upon me. One night, about a month ago, I was sitting on my bed with Meghan while she was using my laptop to explore [...]

Teaching kids the beauty of work–yeah, right!!

Thursday, September 24, 2009 9:53 3 Comments

My son is lazy, simple as that. I once said that I was more worried about Nick in life than I was for Meghan; funny how that is since Meghan is nonverbal and profoundly autistic. But it’s all about the work ethics that my kids seem to possess/not possess Meghan ranks high on this scale, while [...]

The impact on siblings

Tuesday, September 22, 2009 9:55 6 Comments

When we first told Nick that Meghan was going to a new school, and that she would have to stay there overnight and come home on weekends when the time was right, he seemed to understand perfectly well. “Because Meghan breaks things all the time,” he said. I told him “well sort of” and explained [...]
