Vacation in Maine

Tuesday, August 18, 2009 10:28 | Filled in Vacations

Vacation at the Anchorage by the Sea was a great escape. This resort is located in Ogunquit, Maine, and is just north of York and just shy of Wells, if you know anything about Maine. It’s a quaint vacation town on the ocean and has a fun little village called Perkins Cove. Everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING, was in walking distance to the resort. So we could walk Main Street and see the shops, or we could walk the 1 mile, or so, distance on the Marginal way (the scenic view to the village). I loved that feature the best! It was funny because when we were first approaching the resort, I was feeling that usual feeling of excitement and panic, panic that this place that advertises itself as a “remarkable” resort as it does (and it does), maybe wasn’t really all that remarkable, but instead, a run-down hell hole with 20 year old photos!!

(Nice review talent that I’ve got, eh!!)

But it was everything that it said and pictured. Nick had a great time, and it was nice to see him relax and enjoy the ocean views, the cliffs and the rocks, and, not to mention, the ice-cold water (Ah, yeah, the water was like ice, and I’m a girl from Massachusetts saying that!!). One of my favorite things to do was to wake up early (7:00 am), climb out of bed, grab a hot coffee, and sit out at the Adirondack chairs, staring out into the ocean (the early morning view with the sun coming up was breathtaking!!). The first morning I was thinking if Nick (if he ever did wake up before noon) was that kind of person who would enjoy sitting and reflecting, staring out into the great blue yonder—like I love to do—or would he say: Mom this is boring, what are we even looking at?

But he is! He is that kind of a boy— like his mom—the kind that only needs simple things in life to make him happy:

Ocean views

Warm sun

Hot coffee

Delicious wine (well not Nick)

Good book

Good food

Nice friends …

And did I mention the restaurants and the great food? One place we tried, which was right on the water, with every seat an ocean view, was extremely expensive. Nick had his first 20.00 hamburger! And after he ordered, we told him that it was going to be the best freaking burger that he’ll ever eat!!

And I believe it was, because I kept hearing Mmmm…mmmm….mmmm.. sounds coming from his side of the table, but then again, I was too busy enjoying my 32.00 steak to notice! Yeah, expensive, but well worth it, I must say!!

And Photos, what would vacation be without some photos!!

These are great pictures! I remember one summer we went to Maine and the ocean looked so lovely…after all our years in South Florida we could hardly wait to get in. OMG!! It’s not the same! By about 40 degrees! Whoa!

Lucky you to have coffee and Adirondack chairs to relax and take it all in. Glad it went well.
